BLACK. LIVES. MATTER. PERIOD.

Let's take a deep breath before we dive in...

The last few days have been filled with so many emotions. I haven't been able to write down how I've felt nor what I've thought. BUT I do know that this is not the time to stay quiet. I remember in 2012 when Trayvon Martin was murdered how angry I felt. Angry because I knew I couldn't do much. Angry because of the racist comments I hear. Angry because I thought of some of my family members and how it could happen to them. Angry because we live in a world where killing a Black man, woman, or child isn't as important as a Fucking store.

I am fearful for my nephew (because even though he says he's not black he's Mexican) his skin color says different.

I am fearful for my amazing students I've had in the past who are great human beings but they won't be seen as anything else than the color of their skin.

I am fearful for my uncle who shows us his love every day and is a kind God-fearing individual but to others, he isn't anything more the color of his skin.

I am fearful for my sorority sisters, who I know have felt unseen and unheard.

Even though I am surrounded by Black friends, family members, and sisters I will NEVER understand what they feel and what they go through on a day to day basis. I went to an HBCU, and I still will NEVER  fully understand what my Black brothers and sisters go through daily. It is time for EVERYONE to stand up and stand with the Black community. It's not just white folks who are racist. Latinx people are some of the most racist people I have known. Our fight is important, yes, but it DOES NOT compare to the years of suffering our brothers and sisters have endured. Now more than every we NEED to hold each other accountable. You hear a family members say something racist? CALL THEM OUT! You hear your sorority sister or fraternity brother say something racist? CALL THEM OUT! You hear a neighbor say something racist? CALL THEM OUT! It doesn't matter who says something racist or where you are you need to CALL THEM THE FUCK OUT! We need to do better and stand in solidarity with our Black community.
