What I miss from home

Since I moved to Mexico one of the most common questions I get asked the most is "don't you miss being in the US?" to which I answer "not really." "Not really" is an honest answer, but there are things I miss about living there.

1) Even though we have amazing food here in Mexico, I miss US food. I miss Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, Waffle House, and even Cookout among others (I know, how could I possibly miss Cookout). But I do. I miss the taste, as weird as that sounds, but Burger King here doesn't taste the same, and don't even get me started on McDonald's. It's simply a different taste. Then there's those restaurants that don't exist here, like Chipotle and Chick-Fil-A. They were my favorite fast food places to go. I spent more money than I should have in both. I am about to celebrate my one year since my move, and I can't tell ya'll how much I miss the food from the US. Earlier this month I was looking up for Chipotle recipes, and this week finally made some. I got weirdly emotional as I was eating it because I never thought I'd be able to eat a chicken bowl again.

2) SWEET TEA! Ya'll I lived in the South for 11 years, and when I would visit California I would miss Sweet Tea, so imagine how much I miss it now! We have "sweet tea" here, but it doesn't taste the same. It doesn't even compare to the Sweet Tea from home. I try to explain Sweet Tea to people here and they just don't understand how much we love and miss it.

3) Having friends. Like yes I have friends here, but they're more like acquaintances because we don't really hang out with them outside of work things. They're work friends because outside of work we don't really have communication. I used to go out a lot and have fun with my friends back home, but here it's really just my husband and me. Making friends as an adult is weird and difficult. I just wish I had my friends here, specially my two besties.

I do not regret moving, but I do miss home.
