Second Languages

Whether you are a foreign language teacher or have taken a foreign language you know that one of the main things you have to do is practice. It helps you learn and maintain the language more when you speak it outside the classroom, and overall improves your pronunciation and confidence. Well... since we have been in quarantine Enrique and I have only have each other to talk to, and what language to we use the most? English, therefore our Spanish (which isn't the greatest, to begin with) seems to be getting a bit worse.

We speak Spanish every now and then to our parents and coworkers, but for those conversations are only a fraction of the day. It's like only speaking the language we are learning in school for a while and then just going back to our 1st language for the rest of the day. Granted, I think my Spanish is okay, and Enrique has improved in the 3 years he's been here, but in the past two months, I have felt the lack of speaking Spanish is affecting me.

I have caught myself forgetting words, even basic words, in Spanish. I've had to use my Spanish/English dictionary more times than I can count, and I've stuttered a lot more this past month. I know it's probably not as bad as I think it is, but man am I ready to be able to go out and chismear with my neighbors and friends to get my Spanish back to were it was.
